Company History

Altova was founded in 1996 by software experts with a vision of making XML-based tools that would help developers create, edit and manage data. The company’s first product was XMLSpy, an integrated development environment (IDE) for working with XML documents. This tool set the standard for how developers could work with XML data by providing them with a single environment for editing and debugging their code, as well as testing it against different versions of the same document.
In 2001 Altova released its next major product: XmlDeveloper Kit (XDK), which provided developers with an easy way to create custom applications based on open standards such as XML Schema Definition Language (XSD), XQuery Language (XQL), XPath 1.0 and 2.0 Functions & Operators
