HP is one of the largest technology companies in the world, with a market capitalization of over $100 billion. The company has been around since 1939 and has grown from its initial roots as a printer manufacturer into an enterprise that produces everything from personal computers to servers and networking equipment for businesses around the globe.
HP’s history is marked by periods of rapid growth and expansion, followed by periods of retrenchment as it adjusts its focus on new technologies or markets. HP has made several acquisitions over its lifespan, including Compaq Computer Corporation (2001) and Electronic Data Systems (2008).

Growth and Expansion

In the early 2000s, HP began a series of acquisitions and mergers that greatly expanded its portfolio of products. In 2002, the company purchased Compaq Computer Corporation for $25 billion in cash and stock; this acquisition made HP one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world by market share. In 2008, HP acquired Electronic Data Systems (EDS) for $13 billion in cash; EDS was later spun off as an independent company under its own management after being acquired by Hewlett Packard Enterprise on November 1st 2015.
In addition to these major acquisitions/mergers, HP also grew through geographic expansion: starting with offices in California and New York City during its early years as a startup company until today where there are over 250 locations around the world including countries such as China where they opened their first office outside North America back in 1993 before expanding into other Asian countries like Japan or Singapore later on down south towards Australia too!
