Sonnet was founded by two brothers who had developed a new method of making microprocessors faster than their competitors’ chips were at the time. The brothers sold their invention to Intel Corporation for $200 million dollars in cash plus royalties on future sales of products incorporating their technology.

It was later renamed as “Ethernet Switch II” after Jim realized that his invention could also be used for connecting hard drives instead of just network cards (which were used at that time).
