Company Overview

Proofpoint was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. The company’s stock ticker symbol is PFPT.
The company was co-founded by Gary Steele, who serves as its CEO; Rob Shavell, who serves as its CTO; and David Siegel (the former CEO of Symantec).
Proofpoint employs approximately 2,000 people worldwide.

Company History

  • The company was founded in 2002 by a group of security experts who wanted to create a new kind of email security solution.
  • Proofpoint has grown over the years, and now has offices around the world including locations in Europe, Asia and North America.
  • In 2016 they acquired AppRiver Inc., which gave them access to more than 500 million users worldwide – making it one of the largest email providers in the world!

Revenue

Proofpoint’s revenue has been steadily increasing over the years. In 2015, it was $230 million; in 2016, it was $270 million; and in 2017, Proofpoint brought in $300 million. This growth is impressive considering that other cybersecurity companies have seen a decline in their revenues during this time period. For example:
In 2014 Symantec reported $8 billion in annualized sales but had dropped down to $7 billion by 2018. Similarly McAfee had an annualized revenue of $1 billion but fell down to only $500 million by 2018 (this was due partly because Intel bought McAfee).
